UL SYSTEM RESPONDS TO HURRICANE HARVEY WITH FOOTBALL GAME FUNDRAISER

The Universities of Louisiana Student Advisory Council is hosting a fundraising drive for Hurricane Harvey relief during this week’s three intersystem football match ups. Funds raised will be placed in the University of Louisiana System Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and distributed to impacted students in the Houston area.

“The human spirit really comes alive in the midst of disaster and with one of the largest university systems in the nation, it only makes sense to come together for our neighbors in Texas,” UL System Student Board Member Ben Rice said. “Louisiana has felt the pain of disaster and this is the perfect opportunity to pay it forward.”

UL System Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund donation centers will be set up at John L. Guidry stadium in Thibodaux Thursday for the McNeese State matchup against Nicholls. Donations will also be accepted Saturday at Cajun Field in Lafayette before Southeastern takes on Louisiana and at Joe Aillet Stadium before Northwestern State plays Louisiana Tech.

“A disaster of this scale can completely change the trajectory of a college student. I am proud of our students for taking the initiative to give back to a state that has supported Louisiana in our darkest times,” UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. “I encourage our students, alumni and fans attending the games this weekend to give to this worthy cause which will have a lasting impact on students’ lives.”

Our universities are also responding with opportunities for students to volunteer in the impacted areas as well as hosting a systemwide supply drive. To give to the fund outside of this weekends’ match ups, contact the University of Louisiana System, 225.342.6950.
